Pietre Dure is the art of inlaying stones to create a design or picture. In this class students will paint a panel of faux Pietre Dure. For every marble found in the panel we will make a separate panel for each. Each student will walk away with various panels of marble samples plus their main panel. The marbles and stones we will paint in our panel are White Carrara, Yellow Sienna, Green Antique, Rouge Royal and Lapis Lazuli. This panel will incorporate mosaics gilt in gold leaf.

Marquetry is the art of cutting thin sheets of veneer from wood, turtle-shell, bone, ivory, metal, and mother-of-pearl. In this class students will paint a panel of faux Marquetry. For every wood found in the panel we will paint a separate panel as a full sample of that wood. Each student will walk away with various panels of wood samples plus their main Faux Marquetry panel. The wood we will paint in our panel are mahogany, ebony, lemon wood, rose wood and maple. The focus will be on Russian Marquetry.
